January 26/24

Your children are amazing artists!

We have been finishing our winter unit and continuing Canada, this week we learned about Saskatchewan and Manitoba.  We will be presenting our Winter poems this next week (with so many sick last week we only had one presentation).

With all this rainy weather please ensure that your child has an extra set of clothes or at least extra socks, the school's field area is very wet with lots of puddles that of course are very inviting!

Our Spelling Program is starting next week.  There will be a letter in your child's planner on Monday explaining the program.

Next week during our gym classes we are very fortunate to have roller blading, the Fairview PAC has paid for someone to come in to offer this experience.  Everything will be provided but if your child has their own equipment they could bring it in and coach Tracy will inspect it.  Our gym days are Wednesday and Thursday. A fantastic opportunity to try or practise inline skating.

Volunteer needed to help with an art project.  Please let me know if you'd be available to come in to paint with the students we are hoping to paint a night scene and learn about shades and tints.

 HAPPY NEW YEAR!

What a crazy week of weather! Hopefully you were able to spend some quality time outside with your families in the snow before all this rain hits!

All the students brought home a poem in their planner.  Please have your child practise this as they will be presenting with their Reader's Workshop group hopefully next week.

Div. 13 really enjoyed joining Mrs. Drafi's class to learn how to make Word Art on a computer.  Mrs. Drafi and Mrs. Scott said the students were all engaged and on task for 40 minutes which resulted in a neat word picture!

Upcoming Dates:

Wednesday, Jan. 24 - Non-instructional Day

Friday, Jan.26 - Hot Lunch Dominos

Jan. 29 - Feb. 2 Roller blading for the whole school

I'm in the process of booking field trips so will keep you posted!

Div. 13 enjoyed decorating cookies with their big buddies on Wednesday.  Thanks to Mrs. McBeath for making all the cookies and the icing.

Thanks to Wyatt, Rhett, Massimo, Aurora, Blake, Juel for bringing our Christmas snacks and treats for our celebration.  Also thanks to Massimo, Gavin and Blake's parents for the pizza on our last day!

The students also loved the pancake breakfast put on by our PAC. The Grinch being there was an added attraction.

Thank you to parents and students for the thoughtful, generous gifts and hugs (I ask the children for an H (a high-five, handshake or hug) but many choose to do all 3!                                                                   Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!

Important Messages from the office:

Concert ticket information will come out on the portal early next week.  Families will be offered 2 tickets each with an extra tickets available for those with additional parents.  This is to ensure there is enough space for all families to view the concert.  Donations to the music program can be made online or at the concert, but there is no cost to attend.

Drivers abstracts and volunteer driving forms need to be completed every year as per the new policy.  Please be aware that if you have parents who are driving for the first time this year they will need to complete both forms again even if they had driven last year.  We need to keep copies of both the insurance documents and driving abstract.

This is very important as we do have skating with our big buddies class on Tuesday, Dec. 12 in the afternoon.  We will be putting this on the portal early this week.
