June 27/24

 I hope you take the time to go through your child's memory book, it was fun listening to them as they went through their binders remembering the year!  I want to thank you all for sharing your children with me these past ten months, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of them, laughing and learning with them and watching them grow and mature.  Div 13 had a great year,  we learned so much, had lots of special activities and field trips.  I wanted to thank all of you for making this possible by driving and volunteering!  Thank you also for all the generous and thoughtful gifts!

Report cards are on My Class instead of the Parent Portal. With your child's memory book I sent home an information sheet about reading loss over the summer.  I would highly suggest everyone joins the FV Library Summer Reading Program, it adds extra incentive for children to read!  Remember it's important to keep it fun and enjoyable! 

Please note:  No need to buy SCHOOL SUPPLIES for next year for Grade 3 students.  Instead,  you just make a payment once you meet your new teacher.   Those entering grade 4 however, will need to buy supplies.

Thanks to those students who provided snacks for our Teddy Bear Picnic in the forest.  They were enjoyed by everyone and all the students seemed to really enjoy this activity with their friends, Div. 12 and their teddy bears.

Our final, short but important couple of days...

Div. 12 & 13 are having  a Pizza lunch on Monday.  Each child will get 2 pieces of pizza so please still send a regular snack and maybe a little more lunch if your child is a larger eater. 

If you haven't already done this,  please send a bag to take home school supplies and books home.  Everything will be sent on  Monday except for their memory books.

Memory Books on Tuesday - even though it is a half day - I really hope all the students are able to come as we will be finishing up and enjoying our memory books.  Please let me know if your child is not going to be here for Tuesday morning.

Div, 13 Scientists have continued to be inspiring! We've had some very interesting experiments... Savannah made an electromagnetic motor (she made a pokemon card spin),  Cai, Gavin, Addison, Easton, Juel and Aneka all demonstrated different chemical reactions (oobleck, elephant toothpaste, lemon/baking soda, volcano eruption, Mentos and Coke plus dancing raisins). Massimo showed us how magnets can even work through glass and water, how they can clean the ocean floor.  Kian made a tornado with two large pop bottles.  

Happy Father's Day to all you special dads out there.  Your children were all very excited and worked hard on your special cards.  

POETRY BOOKS came home on Thursday and can stay home. We will also no longer be taking books home each day, however if your child is in the middle of a chapter book they are welcome to keep it until it is finished.  Mystery bags will be collected on Tuesday as well as any other book bag books.           Please check your houses for any classroom books that didn't make their way back to school. Every year I seem to get books from families that they've found under the couch, behind a bed etc.  Thanks for your help restoring my library!

Parent Volunteers: If anyone is able to take home a bin or two of manipulative to wash that would be very appreciated.  Please email me.  Thanks so much, I always try to wash every bin of building and math objects at the end of the year and this is a huge job.  This year end has come up so quickly I meant to send this out earlier.  

It sad and hard to believe we only have one full week of school left!

 Fun was had by all at our bowling field trip, the two classes seemed to really enjoy their afternoon (Mrs. Sirovyak were talking it felt like a birthday party)!  Thanks again to all the parent drivers.

What a busy but fun week! The students really enjoyed both the wheelchair basketball and Yukon Dan.  They commented while discussing Yukon Dan that they have never learned so much on a field trip. Our next wheelchair basketball is on Monday.  Thanks to everyone for sending in the money for all these special events!   Below are just a few pictures, your children begged me to put up all of them!

We are now done spelling for the year so students can keep their purple duotangs at home.  

Bowling:  Thanks to the following parents (Gavin, Rhett, Olivia, Aurora, August, Massimo and maybe Mary) who have signed up to drive on Wednesday, June 5th.  Please arrive by 12:20 and we will get organized to leave by 12:25.  We'll be back to the school before dismissal.  Students will need their booster seats and if they want to wear white it will show more with the disco ball!

                                Div. 12 & 13 did a great job presenting at the May assembly! 

Another exciting week of our scientists! Olivia's was growing worms, demonstrating how paper towel absorbs water, Blake made Oobleck demonstrating changes in matter (all the students loved touching/pounding this one!) and Deighton made Magic Milk showing how dish soap reacts to the fat in milk.

 This week Scientist Vienna demonstrated how to make a balloon inflate with baking soda and vinegar while Scientist Aurora made 'Rainbow Water'!  Again please check the date for your child's scientist to ensure they are ready for their Scientist Day.

Thanks to Gavin, Rhett and Vienna's parents for making and/or sending in red play dough.  Students are showing their learning about Canada!

Some students have brought home their green 'Theme' duo tang to finish colouring our Canada Book.  Please have your child return this on Tuesday.

Div. 13 is going to be busy these last few weeks!  Please check the portal for all our upcoming events, payment can be either online or cash in a labelled ziplock bag.

We will presenting our Canada songs at the assembly Wednesday, May 22 at 9:00 am.  Parents are welcome to attend.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Canada Celebration, Div. 12 &13 really enjoyed sharing their learning with you.  Just a reminder we will be performing our Canada songs again at the assembly on May 22 at 9:00.

During our scientists this week we learned about capillary action through Mila's 'Walking Water' and Rhett made a 'lava lamp' by creating a chemical reaction.  Please be sure to check the Scientist schedules and help your child to prepare for their project.   Please let me know if the date doesn't work for you or if you have any questions.

At our assembly on Thursday it was exciting to learn about Vaisakhi that is celebrated in our community and to see a performance of a 'bhangra dance'.  These students did an amazing job!  

  Scientist of the Week information went home on Wednesday.  It is two sheets (one green with information and dates, one white that should be completed and brought to school on their scientist day with all the materials to do their science experiment).   If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask or email me.  Once the projects start they'll have a better understanding.  Even if your child has chosen something that another student does, please don't worry as it is science and they might not turn out exactly the same or it is good to review the concepts.

The students in Div 13 would like to present at an assembly so could you please practise the following songs that are in their Poetry Books, O' Canada, Canada (tune of Jingle Bells) and Canada in my Pocket and they may also want to practise the Canadian version of the Twelve Days of Christmas!  Thanks for your support!

Volunteers Needed: If anyone is able to make Div. 13 some play dough (red if possible but not necessary) and rectangular sugar cookies for our celebration on May 10 that would be very appreciated. Please email me if you are able to help out.

 I can't believe it's already half way through April!  Div. 13 has been busy.  We finished our last territory so are getting close to the end of our Canada unit.  Just a reminder to any parents that can join us on Friday, May 10 8:30 - 9:30 we'll be doing a windup for this special theme.

Monday, April 22 is Earth Day and Fairview is very lucky to have a special Ocean Dome and presentation in the gym.  Our class will be attending at 8:30 so please try to be on time as it looks like it is going to be very cool and interesting.  

We started our new Mystery Bags on Wednesday!  These are in their book bags.  Please ensure that all 5 books get put back into both the ziplock and then their book bag.  Also our Reader's Workshop presentations will be next week for most groups (two groups did present today), please practise these this weekend.

Div. 5 and the rest of Fairview are collecting items for the SPCA.  These types of items are needed: beds, blankets, toys, cat litter, dry and wet food for dogs and treats.  Donations are accepted until April 26th.

April 12/24

 If possible could you please return the solar eclipse project that your child made last Monday.  I wanted them to share them with you and explain what they learned but we are making a bulletin board and also want to keep them for their memory books.  If possible please send back asap.

Please also note:  Your child has homework in their Poetry Book. Please have them read over the poem, discuss and answer the question.   

This week we did the Northwest Territories 'the land of the midnight sky!', learning about the aurora borealis, how the winters are dark and cold but in the summer there is a day when the sun does not set! 

During Explorations the students are creating a CP railway using Canadian animals and trees for a realistic Canadian landscape!

Memory book fee is on the parent portal, please pay online or send in cash in a labelled ziplock.  Thanks!                    Also please be practising their Reader's Workshop books (the ones with the post-its) as we will be starting presentations soon.  We also will be chaning our book bags this week.  The students will be getting a 'Mystery Bag!' which will include a variety of books!

Save the date - May 10th Div 12 and 13 are planning a wind-up for our Canada Unit.  Parents are invited to join us in the gym at 8:30 - 9:30 (instead of family reading).  More information to follow closer to the date but if anyone is able to make rectangle sugar cookies for the day please let me know. We would be decorating them that morning.

Our field trip to Garibaldi Secondary was a success.  The students seemed to really enjoy the drama activities, preparing their pizzas, smoothies and decorating cookies.  Thank you to the parents that joined us, your support is needed and very appreciated.
