November 24/23

Our trip to Fort Langley turned out great!  The weather was a bit chilly but so beautiful.  The students seemed to learn and enjoy each of the different buildings.

We are entering our last week of Club Red.  This week the students are excited for flashlight reading which is Wednesday morning.  Please send a flashlight with your child on Wednesday.  Hopefully your child's calendar is almost totally coloured and initialled, these need to be returned by Dec. 6th at the latest.  Our Club RED celebration on Friday, December 1st, we are asking everyone to wear red.  Thanks for all your support with our special reading program for Literacy Month.

Conference sign up for Dec. 7 & 8th is up and on the parent portal.  The conferences will be approximately 30 minutes long. (1st 15 minutes with your child in the hall to celebrate and go through their work, then 15 minutes with your child and I to discuss their report card and set goals for our next term).  If you are unable to make the conference in person please email so that I can set up a zoom time and send home your child's book ahead of time.

Important Messages from the office:

Concert ticket information will come out on the portal early next week.  Families will be offered 2 tickets each with an extra tickets available for those with additional parents.  This is to ensure there is enough space for all families to view the concert.  Donations to the music program can be made online or at the concert, but there is no cost to attend.

Drivers abstracts and volunteer driving forms need to be completed every year as per the new policy.  Please be aware that if you have parents who are driving for the first time this year they will need to complete both forms again even if they had driven last year.  We need to keep copies of both the insurance documents and driving abstract.

This is very important as we do have skating with our big buddies class on Tuesday, Dec. 12 in the afternoon.  We will be putting this on the portal early this week.

November 17/23

This has been a short but busy and productive week!  Div. 13 finished up their acrostic Peace poems and yesterday made these cute fall gnomes. We were all sad to say goodbye to Sean but wish him and his family all the best in Powell River.

This week we started our Reader's Workshop stations that included our Book Club, this means that some of the students have already brought home a book with a post it.  Please practise these books and encourage your child to bring their book bags daily to school.  Thanks for your help with this.  Also you should be able to access Raz Kids from the link on the side please let me know if you have any difficulties.

Friday, November 24th is going to be packed fill of fun and adventure.  We have decided to CANCEL Family Reading to give us a bit more time the classroom before we leave for Fort Langley.  If you haven't signed up on the portal please do so asap and if you said you were paying cash please do so as soon as possible. We had a great response from parents to join us for this field trip.  Thanks to Gavin, Easton, Cai, Massimo, Vienna, Rhett, Deighton, Aneka, and Blake's parents who have volunteered to join us.  Please arrive at the 9:20. The extra cost for the parent volunteers will be $5.00 please send in this cash (this cost is shared amongst all of you).  If you are no longer able to join us please let me know asap so I can make the adjustments. The field trip is 2 hours, the majority of the time we will be outside (rain or shine) so please dress for the weather. Your child should have an easy to eat snack in their pocket.  We will arrive back to the school to our hot lunches.  It is also our Club RED Book as Movie day, we will unfortunately miss the hallway reading but they could still bring their books to share in the morning.  After lunch we will be watching the animated version of 'The Grinch' in the gym.  Please let me know if you are not comfortable with this and if so there will be an alternate activity provided in a classroom instead.

Conference Sign up will be available on the portal Thursday, November 23 (this will be posted by 4 pm at the latest).  In looking ahead to our student-led conferences on Dec. 7 & 8.  It is an approximate 30 minute commitment (1st 15 minutes with your child in the hall to go through their work and celebrate their work and then up to 15 minutes with me). I need to plan ahead to organize if you unable to attend the conference with your child in person and would prefer a virtual zoom conference please email as I need to set these up differently so that the times work out.

November 9/23

Here are a couple more pictures from Halloween that I wanted to share!

No school tomorrow (Pro D day) or Monday (holiday for Remembrance Day).  We had a very good Remembrance Day assembly today.  This is the collection of wreaths all the Divisions made.

Please sign up for the field trip on Nov. 24th as soon as possible.  If you have volunteered to drive please ensure you have submitted all the volunteer forms and also your driver's abstract.

Book Bags went home on Wednesday (with a purple letter explaining it in detail) please help your child remember to bring these bags everyday.  Thanks.

Div. 13's Gone Batty!  The students worked hard to create these pastel moons.

Club Red has continued and hopefully all the students in Div. 13 are continuing to Read Each Day,  colouring in the square on their calendar and you initialing each day.  Joke/Funny Books hallway reading  was successful, students enjoyed sharing these!  On Wednesday, November 15th it is Activate Your Reading!  Students can wear their jerseys, uniforms, dance outfits, etc and bring a book about sports or physical activity from home.

Thinking ahead to a Christmas craft... I was wondering if any families had any 2 X 4's that they could donate and cut for our class.  The size we need is approximately 7" X 3 1/2" and we'd need 19 pieces. If needed I could purchase the 2X4's if someone is able to cut them.  Please let me know if you are able to help out with this.

Interim reports will be coming home on Monday.

Our field trip to Fort Langley is on the portal now, please sign up as soon as possible.

Thursday, November 9th is our Remembrance Day assembly.  Every child will receive a poppy please send donations for our veterans.

Club RED (Read Each Day!) started on Wednesday.  Many students have said they have already read and coloured in the first few squares, please encourage your child to participate.  I really hope that everyone in Div. 13 becomes a Club RED member (they need to read most days in November (they get 5 free spaces as we know life gets busy!) Remember that even you reading to them counts as they are still enjoying literature.
